Description:
The Ochre Star is the most common sea star (previously called starfish) on the Oregon Coast. They vary in color; most commonly found in shades of purple and orange. Sea Stars are able to regrow their arm if they lose them. They have hundreds of tube feet in two rows on the underside of their arms. The feet are used to move, to hold onto the rocks, and to pry open mussels or other prey. California Gulls are common here. The young are grayish brown, turning white with grey wings as they mature.
