Description:
Urquhart Bluff, Great Ocean Road, Australia. This rock is a weathered tuff. The speckled surface reflects the original settling of volcanic ash that has since hardened and lithified. This motley rock can be seen at the base of cliffs all the way to Aireys Inlet and is part of the Angahook Formation. The deep red, pink and cream ripples are known as liesegang banding. Mineral rich water washed through the rock and distributed lines of iron and clay rich minerals.
